North Tyneside Council Measles Advice

The PE department at Churchill has successfully been awarded the Silver Kitemark in recognition of the provision and opportunities offered as part of the Sainsbury’s School Games programme.  This builds on last years Bronze award and is a testament to the opportunities available to students and the huge number of students who are committed to school sport and participating as performers, leaders and officials.

Evidence was presented to the School Games external verification team from Sheffield University to demonstrate how the school meets the stringent requirements of an extensive set of criteria.

This includes the number of opportunities students have to participate in sport and physical activity at school as part of the curriculum and extra curricular programme.

The PE department have been able to provide Level 1 competition in over 24 different sports within school and have entered teams into more than 15 different sporting competitions in North Tyneside over the last year, in many cases including ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams.  This also resulted in the college having the highest participation rates within North Tyneside and finishing second in the medal table.

Involvement in school sport has not only been as performers and large numbers of students have gained coaching and officiating qualifications in a number of sports and used there skills to lead and officiate competitions within college, across North Tyneside and Tyne and Wear competitions.

The Sainsbury’s School Games Kitemark also requires regular promotion of school sport to students and parents involved with the college.  The department does this successfully through social media networks where results and competition reports are published with photographs and match video clips.
