North Tyneside Council Measles Advice

OfSTED Confirms we are OUTSTANDING

Churchill was inspected on 21st and 22nd May by OfSTED. A team of 4 inspectors and an HMI were in college and looked at a huge range of evidence- observed lessons, looked closely at hundreds of student books, spoke to students, looked at parents’ views, spoke to Governors, staff, the local community and the Local Authority. They scrutinised examination results very closely.

Their judgement was that we are an Outstanding school in every way.

Their grading is: 1= Outstanding, 2=Good, 3= Requires Improvement and 4= Inadequate.

The grades they gave us were:

Behaviour and Safety
Leadership and Management
Overall Effectiveness

Only 11 % of secondary schools have been judged as Outstanding under the new Ofsted criteria. So this is a fantastic achievement for Churchill and something we have been working very hard towards in recent years.
Students will be bringing the report home today for you. There is a link directly to it here, which allows you to read it electronically.

See what Mary Glindon - MP for North Tyneside said about us in a debate about Education in the Houses of Parliament. (skip video to14:50pm)

Some of the incredible things they saw while with us were:

‘Churchill Community College is an outstanding provider of education to young people that prepares them extremely well for their future.’

‘Teaching is Outstanding.’

‘Teachers constantly challenge their students and deliver lessons which inspire and engage them to do well. Students say that they enjoy learning and that teachers give them work that is usually both demanding and fun.’

‘All groups of students in KS3 and 4 make outstanding progress and leave Year 11 with GCSE results well above those found nationally.’

‘Students say they have many opportunities to participate in activities outside of normal college hours from sport to academic study. They welcome these opportunities and there are high levels of participation.’

‘The college successfully places a particular focus on the aspiration of students to achieve well enough to be able to access higher education at renowned universities.’

’The college’s work to keep students safe and secure is outstanding. Students are extremely safe in the college.’

‘Relationships between staff and students, and between students themselves, are very strong and supportive. Staff and students are courteous, polite, mature and respectful of each other.’

‘Students are confident, caring and considerate of all cultures and diverse aspects of the community in which they live. ‘

’Students’ behaviour is outstanding.’

We are incredibly proud of our students and staff, their hard work and commitment to doing their absolute best. Only the best is good enough is our mantra at Churchill. We want our students to have the very best life chances possible.

Thank you for your support as parents – it makes a huge difference for children when parents and the college work together to support and challenge them. As you might also know, we have been incredibly successful in winning two national teaching awards at Silver level and are in the last 4 schools nationally for the Gold Award in the categories:
  • Most Outstanding Team in a Secondary School: Churchill’s Teaching and Learning Team
  • The Ted Wragg Lifetime Achievement Award in Education : Alan Strachan
The national final is presented live on BBC 1 in October.Churchill is now achieving the national recognition we deserve.
