North Tyneside Council Measles Advice

First National Leader of Governance in North Tyneside

Tracey Booth, Chair of Governors at Churchill Community College, is the first secondary National Leader of Governance (NLG) to be appointed in North Tyneside. Tracey said, “It is a great honour to be selected to take on this role. I chair an outstanding secondary school and I am dedicated to ensuring each and every one of our students does the very best they can. I thoroughly enjoy the role and this new designation gives me a chance to help other schools by strengthening their governance capacity”.

Over the last few years Tracey has helped Churchill Community College to secure an OUTSTANDING OfSTED grading. Since then the school has continued to improve, now rated as number one secondary school in the North East for value added in 2015. She has also encouraged the school to provide significant support to other schools, whilst she has taken on additional roles to support governing bodies. Churchill Community College has gone on to become a Teaching School and a National Support School.

NLGs are highly effective chairs of governors who support chairs of governors in other schools. They have:

  • excellent leadership skills
  • a track record of raising school performance
  • the skills to influence improvement by supporting or challenging headteachers
  • a track record of implementing and sustaining effective governance
Schools looking to improve the leadership and performance of their school’s governing body can ask for the support of an NLG. Support typically consists of:
  • coaching and mentoring
  • reviewing the responsibilities of the governing body
  • action planning
  • supporting academy conversion
  • advising on reviewing headteacher performance
