Gold Plato for Lifetime Achievement for OUTSTANDING Tyneside Teacher is celebrated at the Pearson Teaching Awards 2014

Students, and staff at Churchill Community College, Wallsend will be celebrating as Alan Strachan wins the UK Award for Lifetime Achievement  2014!

Awards were announced on the evening of Sunday 26 October at a glittering ceremony held at London’s Guildhall, hosted by TV historian Dan Snow.

In all 11 Gold Plato winners were selected from across the UK, whittled down from over 20,000 nominations received this year.  Alan wins the UK Gold Award in his category for his exceptional work with students and teachers throughout his entire 36 year career!

Often called the ‘Oscars for Teachers’, the awards have 11 categories this year, each recognising individual contributions to scholarship and learning. Each of the 11 winners receives a gold Plato - the ultimate symbol of excellence in education. 

The ceremony will be broadcast on BBC2 at 6.00pm on 2nd November as “Britain’s Classroom Heroes”.
