North Tyneside Council Measles Advice

Legal Eagles!

A group of Sixth Form students from Churchill Community College competed in the regional heats of the Bar National  Mock Trial at Newcastle Crown Courts, a competition which aims to give students a taste of a career in Law, as well as giving a greater understanding of the British legal system and a fantastic opportunity to compete in debate with other school.

On 22nd November 2014, the group of 12 Year 12 and 13s went to Newcastle Crown Courts and competed as either the Defence Team or Prosecution in two real criminal cases in front of real Crown Court Judges, with students playing the roles of barrister, witness, defendant, juror and court officials.

The team did fantastically well, winning two of the three cases they were competing in on the day, and were closer than ever to getting through to the national finals in Edinburgh. Year 13 student Kirstie Williamson: “I was involved for the second year this time, and played a barrister - it was a lot of fun, a real challenge, and I really enjoyed doing something a bit different!”
